Survey types

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Saint Lucian survey locations

Plan the survey around Saint Lucia’s separate bays and marine facilities

Saint Lucia is compact, but marina access, mooring arrangements and haul-out capability differ between the north, west-coast bays and the south. Confirm the exact berth, keys, yard booking, sea-trial plan and whether the work is private or intended for the Saint Lucia registry.

Rodney Bay & Gros Islet

Rodney Bay Marina · Gros Islet · north-west anchorages

The island’s principal leisure-yacht concentration. Confirm marina or yard access, lift dimensions, contractor permission and whether the vessel is afloat or ashore.

Castries & Choc Bay

Castries Harbour · Choc Bay · Vigie and nearby facilities

Commercial-port and leisure access can involve different controls. Give the precise berth or mooring and identify where the ashore inspection will take place.

Marigot Bay & west coast

Marigot Bay · Anse Cochon · Soufrière

Resort marinas and moorings may offer limited inspection access. Arrange tender transport, power, keys and a practical haul-out location before attendance.

Find a surveyor in this region

Vieux Fort & south

Vieux Fort · Laborie · southern bays

Treat the south as a separate travel assignment. Confirm port or yard permission, lift capability and whether the vessel must move for a complete survey.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a Saint Lucia marine survey quote?

Provide the exact marina, berth, mooring or yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and preferred date. Include tender access, haul-out, sea trial and any insurer, lender, registration or safety-inspection requirement.

Can a complete survey be carried out while the yacht is on a mooring?

An afloat inspection may be possible, but access to shore power, systems and the underwater body can be limited. Agree tender transport and a separate haul-out where the assignment requires an ashore inspection.

Is a private pre-purchase survey enough for Saint Lucia registration?

Not automatically. Saint Lucia’s Shipping Act provides for appointed Surveyors of Ships and nominated classification societies, and SLASPA publishes formal survey and safety-inspection routes. Confirm the exact registry document and authorised route first.

Can a surveyor attend in Soufrière or Vieux Fort?

Potentially, subject to availability, safe access and the required facilities. Travel and any vessel move to a suitable haul-out location should be agreed before appointment.

Are travel, haul-out and sea trial included in the survey fee?

Only when expressly included. Island travel, tender transport, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.

Who appoints the marine surveyor?

The client appoints the independent surveyor and agrees scope, fee, timing, limitations and terms directly. Saint Lucia Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include charter-yacht condition surveys, storm & hurricane damage surveys, rig & mast inspections, engine diagnostics & oil analysis, moisture, osmosis & corrosion, sea trials & delivery acceptance, refit & repair inspections, registration, tonnage & safety work. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
